April 8 2014 Update

The project is as yet unfinished and as of today’s date, there is no prospect of a book being finished just yet.

I will not be adding to the blog in the near future.

When work commitments permit, I will resume research into England Amateur Internationals.

You can email me via info@englandsamateurs.com if you have a query or indeed any photos, dates of birth or death regarding players that represented the England Amateur International team.

Hounslow Town’s England amateurs

I’ve posted an appeal via a popular thread on the Griffin Park Grapevine for information on the whereabouts of Hounslow Town’s trio of England internationals: Alan King, Derek Evans and Bill Creasy.

Alan scored over 400 goals for the Red and Blacks in over ten years at Denbigh Road but only received one amateur cap, in the 4-2 win over France at Kenilworth Road on 14 November 1953. Naturally, he bagged one with Jim Lewis junior (2) and Sutcliffe scoring the rest.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Two books through the post

Two important books arrived in the post today, both by Colin Weir. They chart the history of Oxford and Cambridge Universities football teams respectively since their formation.

Younger followers of football may be interested to learn that both England’s full and amateur international sides were awash with players from both institutions, especially prior to the First World War.

These books will be an important secondary source for the project.
