Why leave publication until 2014 you ask? Well, the research needed to complete this project to a satisfactory conclusion will take three or four years at many institutions across the UK, not to mention online resources and thousands of fact checking – and re-checking – involved.

I believe it will be the only book of its kind to hold this information in its entirety, and to at long last give recognition to the near 600 footballers who wore the England jersey – without payment.

The intended publication date is 5 April 2014, which co-incides with the 40th anniversary of England’s last game at amateur level, a draw with Scotland at Coventry City’s former home, Highfield Road.
